Restoring upper airway on patients with tracheostomy tubes has resulted in positive outcomes. Clinical background and case examples were presented on using a speaking valve to improve level of consciousness in persons with minimally conscious state who have a tracheostomy tube and require mechanical ventilation in the LTAC setting.
